Streamlight PolyTac, it survived to fall off my washing machine!
I've bought flashlights from home depot that you'd drop once and they'd break. This Streamlight PolyTac fell off my washing machine in my garage onto the concrete floor and came through with no apparent damage. It is very bright. The only thing that is a little goofy is I haven't figured out how to directly turn it to "off," I seem to have to cycle through other settings. Perhaps I should read the directions, but someone else said the same thing. I just bought a 2nd one.
Streamlight PolyTac makes a Great Gift...
My dad managed to break his old flashlight. Not sure how. He asked for a new one for Christmas. It needed to be small enough to be held in one hand, light enough to be used while doing other things, bright enough to be able to find jobs in a dark basement when the power goes out, and he did NOT want rechargeable batteries. On that last point, I think he was talking more about not wanting a light that used a drill power pack, like the ones that come in those combination drill/saw/light type sets. However, when I checked with him, he assured me he didn't want rechargeable batteries. So, I settled on this Streamlight after looking at reviews of other similar looking lights . When he opened the light on Christmas, he was interested in getting the sun out and testing it out. He opened the package, installed the included batteries, and took to using the light. It's very bright. I'm not very familiar with other "nice" flashlights, so I can't compare, but I do know it's brighter than any of the flashlights I have lying around my house. He seemed to like the way the light was focused and how brilliant it was. He took it into the basement and came back to assure me that the light would work for what he needed it for. The quality of the build seems stable. I'm used to flashlights being cheap plastic or metal, so this one is a higher grade type of plastic was different for me, but it felt outstanding in the hand. The button to turn it off and on seems stable, and the fact that it came with batteries is a big plus. Overall, my dad likes the light, and I think it seems like a pretty good product. The only problem?? I now want one for myself!!!
The Streamlight PolyTac has a Very long battery life.
I bought this Streamlight PolyTacfor working in a large factory. I use it almost daily for checking equipment numbers and on occasion while troubleshooting. I have yet to replace the batteries. Being used in a dirty environment, it gets filthy. I clean it at the end of the day using GOJO abrasive hand cleaner. It cleans right up, and the bright yellow is still shining. The only thing I don't care for is the pocket clip. I bent it the first day I got it. I took it off and used a belt holster.
Blinded some thug teenagers with it
Great flashlight. I own three Streamlight PolyTac'sand plan to order a few more. I have tracked several deer with it. I work downtown, and sometimes thugs and homeless people are hanging out. There are several blocks between my office and where I park. When I leave late at night, I always have it at the ready. The beam is blinding and can give you an extra second to draw your weapon. I've used it twice lately. One night a dog approached me in my yard and was growling and barking. I blasted him with the light. He couldn't take it and backed off and walked to the other side of the street. The additional time I was at a stoplight and some thug teenagers in the vehicle next to me started yelling at me. I blasted them with the light. They couldn't take it, and they all were squinting and had to look away. I instantly had the advantage if the situation had escalated.
The best budget weapon light around.
I have an old Streamlight polytac, that's about ten years old. Good, pure, and provides the right spot. This is not that light. This is a newer generation with some pleasant updates. For starters, this light has a broader spot. Distance visibility is about the same, about 100 yards of bright light and a secondary light spread with a shorter range that provides an excellent peripheral. Battery life is fantastic in comparison to my other cr123 flashlights. Can't say how long it'll run continuously, but as a weapon light, I can go about a year on a set with moderate to light use. The addition of a strobe is a pleasant little surprise for me. Both of my polytacs are mounted to hear the muzzles of various.30 Cal rifles.
Awesome affordable light - Streamlight PolyTac is the one to get
Excellent tac light and doesn't break the bank. Could buy three for the price of most entry-level weapon lights and its programmable. I use the High only setting because it is mounted to my home defense rifle, but the different options make this an extremely versatile light. The Streamlight polytac led is much brighter than my incandescent tac lights and has a beautiful tight beam. I have not tested it's water resistance or drops tested it, so I cannot say how well it performs there. It does seem well sealed, and the polymer appears to be similar to other "military-grade" polymer lights I own — my favorite light I've owned by far for a fraction of the cost.
Best Tactical Flashlight I've Owned
I recently took the Streamlight Polytac to the two-night Advanced Tactical Pistol class at Front Sight, and it performed beautifully. For me, it fits the hand and manipulates better than the Surefire 6P. It lit targets extremely well during zero-light tactical simulations. The 6P is good; this flashlight is superior.
Best handheld flashlight for the money
This Streamlight Polytac Flashlight is excellent. The flashlight is sturdy and dependable. Its small size is just right. The flashlight is small and light enough to carry. The light is powerful enough to use for self-defense or only as a general-purpose flashlight. Streamlight flashlights I have used in the past in law enforcement proved to be robust and reliable, and I believe the PolyTac will as well.
My streamlight polytac review
We live in a rural area of North Idaho. I have several of these strategically placed around the house (if my wife will put them back where they belong after using one!). The Streamlight Polytac lights up the night and I can usually determine pretty quickly if the dogs are barking at deer or there is something more sinister out there. I've mounted one on my 870 for intimate encounters of the predator kind. Buy one - you will be satisfied.
