Customer Ratings & Reviews
protac® 2.0 rail mount long gun light
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Streamlight Railmount for its $100 price point. The light is bright enough to clear rooms and disorient an attacker, without being so bright that it causes excessive glare. I appreciate that the pressure switch requires enough pressure to prevent accidental activation during recoil, but it is still easy to activate with confidence. The included rubber pic clips are tight enough to securely hold the switch, and the wire length is sufficient without excess that needs to be taped up. The mount is bulky, but it does not interfere with my front sight. Although everything could be smaller and lighter, the price and performance make it a good value. I am so impressed with the Railmount that I plan to purchase another for my 10.5" weapon. Streamlight claims a battery life of 6 hours, but I will have to wait and see. Even if it lasts only an hour, that is enough for me to trust it in an emergency. The additional batteries are inexpensive at just $12 for 10. The spread and brightness of the light minimizes shadows when mounted next to the barrel, but I offset it above and the shadow is no longer visible. Overall, I highly recommend the Streamlight Railmount for its performance and value.
Great value.
As a rancher, I purchased the Streamlight Railmount for added security during nighttime investigations. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly and easily it installed on my standard rail without the need for any special tools, just a screwdriver. I initially bought two and plan to purchase more in the future. The oddball battery size was a minor inconvenience, but I appreciate the peace of mind that comes with using lithium batteries that are expected to last for years without needing to be replaced. So far, I have gotten a good amount of time out of the batteries and haven't had to replace one yet, although I don't use them on a daily basis. If you're looking for an affordable entry into weapon lights or a decently rugged option for daily use, I would recommend the Streamlight Railmount. However, I cannot endorse it for use in combat until I have had a chance to test it further. For my ranch needs, I would definitely buy this product again.
I've been using streamlight products for a few years now
I recently purchased the Streamlight Railmount for my work shotgun. I have been using Streamlight products for a few years now and have been satisfied with the performance of both the Stinger (duty belt) and the ProTac HL (AR weapon light). The ProTac HL has held up well for three years of use as a weapon light and the Stinger has survived being dropped and submerged in water multiple times, and has even broken a couple of car windows with its "bust a cap" glass breaker tail end. Although I cannot speak to the durability of the Railmount, based on my experience with Streamlight's other products, I am confident it will perform well. One of the things I appreciate about Streamlight products is their affordability compared to other brands like Surefire. The Railmount comes with a remote pressure pad that I have mounted on the forend of my patrol shotgun via a rail on a magpu. The pressure switch is located on the left side and does not interfere with my sling. The large momentary on button is easy to find with my thumb and the raised clicker on/off switch is also accessible. Additionally, the Railmount operates just like all my other Streamlight lights, making it convenient to use multiple lights that all work the same way. One disappointment with the Railmount is that Streamlight does not make a remote switch that works with their ProTac line. The HL is 100 lumens brighter and its mount can be adjusted with a one-inch ring, whereas the Railmount's position is fixed due to its design. The cord length is also fixed and does not have a plug-in option like the TLR line, so if the cord is too short or too long, you will need to get creative with a soldering gun or deal with the length you have. The product comes with zipties, 3m double-sided tape, and two rubber rail mounts for attaching the switch. While these options may work for some, for professional duty use, zipties and tape are not ideal and the rubber rail mounts are not very secure. I used the rubber rail mounts, but I found that an 11-rail section is too long and a 7-rail section is too short. I hope Streamlight will partner with Magpul to create a more robust rail mount system for the pressure switch. In summary, Streamlight has a proven track record of durability and I expect the Railmount to match this reputation. At a little over $100, it is a good value buy and provides enough brightness for indoor and outdoor use, although the HL is significantly brighter and throws a longer light. The fixed cord length may be a limitation, and if you need to replace a broken part, you will need to contact Streamlight directly as they do not sell them separately. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and believe it is a great option for those looking for an affordable and reliable weapon light.
Great Deal
I recently got this Streamlight protac rail mount 2. There are several huge benefits: This will mount to surefire mounts, it's half the price of a surefire, it's 3 different programs to select from, and it's bright. Everything is solid, there's no rattle or cheap feeling to it. I tested the ar15 light out at an indoor range, and the hotspot was visible with indoor lighting at 25 yards! The only changes I'm making to the light is getting a 45 degree offset mount to bring the light closer to the rifle.
Bright Light
I bought the streamlight protac 2 to attach to my SIG MPX. It mounted easily, I did not have to utilize the extension that allows you to turn it off and on but had I put this on my AR15, I would have used it and it would have been handy. It is also budget friendly compared to the more expensive ar15 lights like SureFire. If I could give it 4 1/2 stars I would, but it does not allow 1/2 stars. My only knock is it is somewhat finicky trying to get the light to strobe instead of steady. It is not hard but in the event I had to do it quickly, it might be a little harder to accomplish. However, that is just a slight issue for me.
Amazing weapon light!
I have this mounted on my home defense AR, and I have to say, I love this light! The low setting is fantastic for indoor use, and the high setting is flat out blinding. It mounts easily, feels incredibly rugged and durable, and doesn't add much weight to the front end. I highly recommend this light.
Very good light
Awesome light! I was comparing this to the hl-x, decided to go with 2 as it is a little smaller profile. I know it is listed as fewer lumens, but this is very powerful and brighter than anything I would ever need. Will easily illuminate any room indoors and nearly lights up my back yard, all while keeping a slim profile when attached to my rifle. Quality construction and overall a very solid piece. Very impressed.
I would not only buy again but reccommend it
I mounted this Streamlight on my AR. I ordered scope attached rails to swap on my .22 and .22 mag for small night varmints. This little light gives off way more light than my big handheld spotlight. Very impressive.
Awesome weapon light
I have this mounted under the bore of my home defense AR, and I can honestly say that it's my all-time favorite light. Incredibly bright, even on the low setting, which is what I use for indoors. It's survived a ton of range time/rounds and feels as sturdy and dependable as the day I bought it. Great price, awesome quality, incredible light.
Great light. Why pay more??
This light is super bright—lightweight. Sturdy mount. Cast night perfectly off an AR. I can't imagine paying any more money for a flashlight than this because it's a flashlight. They get lost, batteries explode in them, buddies take them...... Best bang for the buck for sure
Buy this light
I run the Streamlight protac rail mount 2 on 2 ar's and 2 AK's as an instructor and recommend them to everyone I can. Coupled with the Mid West industries mount ( Product #: 968824 ), it's the best darn set up for under 200 bucks. Get them both.
My Streamlight protac rail mount 2 review
The Streamlight line of weapons lights are a great value. I have several of them on my AR15 rifles & one on a shotgun. I have used them in live-fire exercises & have not had any problems with them flicking on & off, every one of them performs like they are supposed too. I own both the ProTec 2 & the TLR HL1 models & for the price; you can't go wrong. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the market for a reliable weapons light.
