    SureFire EP3 Sonic Defenders

    Filtered Flanged Earplugs

EP3 Sonic Defenders shield your hearing without interfering with your capacity to hear natural sounds or conversations. Their double-flanged-stem design matches many people and supplies a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 24dB. Sounds, at stable levels, are allowed to pass through into the ear canal, although possibly harmful noises (above 85dB) are reduced via a proprietary design which incorporates a unique noise-reducing filter. EP3s contain mounted filter caps, which may be inserted for additional protection and blocking out lower-level noise, such as that heard on a plane, where hearing neighboring sounds or conversations is not crucial. Right/left color-coded Sonic Defenders are made from a soft but durable, hypoallergenic polymer that offers all-day comfort and an elongated product life (up to 6months, based on usage and care). Their patented EarLock® retention rings lock the earplugs in place, while gentle, adjustable double-flanged stalks supply secure seals from the ear canals. A low-profile design means EP3s may be worn while wearing a helmet or mask, or while utilizing a phone or headset. Available in black, clear, or orange.

Comfortable EP3 Sonic Defenders also serve as earpieces for SureFire™ Hearing Protection along with other compatible radio communication systems* by simply eliminating the noise-reducing filter and then attaching the earpiece to the system. NOTE: EP3 earpiece won't offer hearing protection in the event the noise-reducing filter has been removed.

EP3s can be located in small (S), medium (M), and large (L). Proper size is based on the dimensions of your ear concha bowl. Size"medium" matches many people; nonetheless, to ensure the best possible match, click the Sizing Chart thumbnail picture above or download detailed specifications here also to view the sizing chart on page 4. For those with larger (in diameter) ear canals, the three-flange stem of our EP4 Sonic Defenders may offer a better match than the EP3's two-flange stem.

EP3 Sonic Defenders are sold as one left/right set or inside a box containing 25 sets. Each pair is packaged in a convenient carry case and includes a polymer lanyard.

    Good for duck hunting

I found a product that allows me to hear well enough to hear game and my hunting buddies during a hunt yet still blocks enough shotgun blast to help keep my ears from ringing after a hunt. Best of all: NO BATTERIES! Negative: I found it hard to keep them in at first until I learned more about them. They fit me well, but not perfectly. I found if I get the front top part tucked in neatly they stay in. I lost one or two before I figured that out.

I have used The Surefire ep3 for shooting, playing in a band, lawn mowing, but most importantly chainsawing. That is my career is operating a chainsaw for a wildland fire crew. An I wear them for 10-12 hours straight—there kinda stiff for the first couple of times for long hours, but they break-in. During the winter, they are a pain to stick in your ear, especially the 26db ones, since they are longer. So I prefer the 24db ones for that. I hate foam plugs and earmuffs. Foam plug never stays in an ear muffs gets caught on everything walking through the dense woods. I can't be happier. An with the clear plugs, nobody can tell you're wearing them. I can hear people talking, and I can hear chatter on my radio on my chest rig for when I'm on fire. For me, they last about 4-6 months; then I replace them.

These Sonic Defenders EP3 work great on the range and they work great in the field hunting as well. Took them to Montana and had no issues with the cold weather either

THE Most comfortable plugs ever. The EP3 Sonic Defenders can let your ears breathe. Subtle design hides in your ear: Tune-able, low Db, or Higher Db sound blocking. Motorcycle usable took. I am going to buy the 3rd set for a spare, spare set. One in my Motorcycle coat, and one in my Range Bag.

The only ear plugs I buy!

I use these earplugs for everything from USPSA 3-gun matches to combat patrols in Afghanistan. They provide the best balance of comfort, noise reduction, and adaptability (you can plug your communication device right into the earpiece) for my purposes. They are not the quietest earplugs (24-decibel reduction), so if you're looking to tame the beast of very large magnums under a shooting range roof you should pair them with some ear muffs.

ATA trap shooting. The surefire ep3 sonic defenders are comfortable, stay in place, deaden the gun blast, but can hear the scorer. No negatives yet. Can't say how long they last, but cheap to replace. Be sure to order the correct size.

    Great Value!

These ep3 Sonic Defenders are a great value! They come in a small plastic carry case so you can carry them in your pocket going to the range. I also wear earmuff style hearing protection in an indoor range, but outdoors they are the cat's pajamas. I have a hard time keeping hearing protection in my ears normally, but these stay in well and are very comfortable. Not to mention, you can easily hear others talking.

    Quality, long lasting, comfortable

I have been using these Sonic Defender earplugs for a couple of years now. They are an EDC item for me. I am on my second pair simply because I've lost my first one. I wear them for long periods (4-6 hrs. at a time)while running heavy factory machinery, and find them very comfortable. They do a great job blocking out the loud machine noise at work, and gun reports at the range. The inner plugs work well at maximizing the hearing protection (from 18 to 25dbl.) for shooting indoors or when I pick up my SOCOM rifle with its loud compensator. The pair in my pocket right now have been in use over a year (every day carry). In fact, they've outlasted the case they came in, and I believe I'll still get a few more months out of them. I do clean them occasionally by soaking them in dishwater and peroxide.

    Very Versatile

I use these Surefire ep3's for tactical range training where muffs are impractical and loud concerts too. I also use a small set for my two-year-old to prevent water intrusion to her ears with tubes. I know it is not advertised to prevent water intrusion, but it seems to work ok for it. I like the different levels of protection available from one set of plugs. Open for just observing, closed for more close-in activities, and I have learned for maximum protection I can push them further into the ear, and more sound will be blocked. A better case would be the only possible improvement.

    Amazing for Passive hearing protection

I was using the SureFire EP3 last weekend with an AR pistol. Worked excellently! No dangerous overpressure in the ears. Never closed the little stoppers either. I was able to hear all commands, and they successfully neutralized the 5.56 noise, as well as 9mm and a 3" 357 mag. I'll have to buy another pair in case I lose these! I have not tried using them indoor yet. I imagine then I'll need to close them. We'll see.
