vortex solo rt
This monocular was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted an optic to range targets that didn't require batteries or sensitive electronics. I have been using my Mil-dot Vortex scope, but it requires me to carry my rifle to do it. I would highly suggest getting a mil-dot master slide rule to go with this, so you don't have to Do any math. Measure the target in mils and slide the rule, and there's your range. This optic is crystal clear. It is also pronounced the build quality is such that it will last forever with just minimal care, and if I do break it, the vortex will fix it. I am a fan of the vortex, and this, like the other products I have, is top-notch. People have complained about the carry pouch, but I must have got a new one that has a stretchy cover that Covers the entire optic with a slit in the back. I'm actually very happy with this cover. If you position the slit by the clip, you can clip it on your belt with total glass coverage—well done fantastic Vortex product.
I bought the vortex
I bought the vortex to see where my kids in 4-h shooting sports were hitting as I walked up and down the firing line. It works great for this. You can see where every shot is going. We use it a lot to get ready for the state shoot even the kids can use it to check their shots. Very handy.
A great little optic for the money
This is a nice piece of equipment. The optics are clear and bright, and it does everything as advertised. It's very handy for bird watching, and the light gathering properties are good enough to use for stargazing at night. The overall size is good. Big enough to fit the hand nicely but still small enough to drop in a jacket pocket. A very good, compact alternative to a pair of binoculars of equal power. I could only find three faults with it. One is that the focusing ring is not very smooth, particularly right at the point where everything should be in perfect focus for my vision. At this point, the ring slips a bit, making it difficult to achieve the perfect final focus. The other fault is the reticle itself. While being sharply printed and quite detailed, it has several tiny specks on it. Whether this is dirt or some ink left over from the printing process, I don't know. While they certainly aren't large enough to interfere with using the Vortex, they're there, and under the right circumstances, could be mildly irritating. In fairness, both of these issues might only be limited to the item I received and not typical of the entire production run. And I didn't find them serious enough to return them for replacement. However, if I had been able to choose from several, I would have at least picked one with a smoother focusing ring. My final complaint, as another reviewer has stated, is the pouch. It is worse than useless, and I will be finding a replacement for it ASAP.
Wish I had found this sooner!
I wish I had found this product sooner! This is just what any hunter or shooting enthusiast wishing to learn the mildot system of target ranging needs! This well-constructed monocular has a built-in ranging system that is bright and lightweight and you don't have to mount it on a rifle to learn how to use it. I carry it with me when I hike around the lake to practice target ranging. It comes with instructions, a wrist strap and a carrying case. The only negative thing is that I cannot hold it steady enough to range anything smaller than a coyote past 500 yards; I wish it had a tripod mount. I wish I had found this product about three years ago. I highly Recommended!
