I have an under-folder. It was great for a long time, but I went to the ramge with a buddy of mine and he had an AR style rifle with a good red dot scope mounted on it. He let me shoot a few rounds of his and needless to say I was instantly sold on the need for me to get some optics to put on the ole AK. Ive been reluctant to embrace the 21st century in terms of what Im willing to do as far as gun modifications and accessories. Ive also been to cheap prior to now. Having fun shooting a really tight group with my friend’s gun made me realize its stupid to limit myself to iron sights alone. This all led me down the rabbit hole of determining the best mount and sight for the AK. I decided right where the rear sight leaf currently is would be the best place, and is likely the most solid place to mount something to keep zero. Everywhere else on the Kalashnikov pattern rifle it is either to hot for battery powered gadgets in my opinion, or the tolerances the gun is built to accept wouldnt be very accommodating for a sight to sit on and remain accurate. This makes attaching anything anywhere on an underfolder AK-47 problematic. So Ive decided on Texas Weapon Systems sight mount for the top of the rear sight trunion. I just hope it can fit several makes and models of red dot. We’ll see.
