I've been using it for about 6-8 months on my precision rifle, and I've grown quite fond of it. While there are a few tweaks I'd suggest, the overall engineering and build quality are top-notch. Just to touch on the basics, it's similar to the CTR with its locking mechanism and adjustability. A standout feature of the STR is its storage; you can store two CR123 batteries on each side, ensuring they're waterproof. There are slots for 1.25-inch loops for slings, but I prefer using the QD mounts. The butt pad is removable, and the cheek weld is angled, providing more surface area for a comfortable fit. I've found this design more favorable than the CTR for my rifle. In terms of construction, it's Magpul – so you know it's quality. Everything they produce is made in the USA, which is a big plus for me. One minor issue I've noticed is a slight wobble when it's locked in position. I've tried it on different buffer tubes, and the movement persists. However, I believe this might be a one-off issue with the piece I received. The stock's weight is around 13 ounces, which is slightly on the heavier side, but that's the trade-off for the added storage. The rubber plug for battery storage is easy to use, and the overall design ensures no debris gets inside. In conclusion, the Magpul STR buttstock is solid. It offers great cheek weld, storage options, and a reliable lock-up system. While I've experienced a slight movement issue, I believe it might be unique to my piece. The stock is durable, made of high-quality polymer, and lives up to Magpul's reputation. If you're in the market for a reliable buttstock with storage options, I'd recommend giving the STR by Magpul a shot.

Great product with timely service.

I built an AR-15 carbine on a Bushmaster XM-15 lower receiver and a Colt upper receiver. I put a mid-length gas system/barrel on it and she cycles smoothly into the mil-spec buffer tube. But I decided against the standard collapsible stock and went with the Magpul STR. I like it because it has a battery compartment and they also make a nice cheek weld. It also comes with Quick Release mount points for my sling. Magpul makes a quality product, and it's highly durable. I dropped my weapon on a rooftop and had it fall 22 feet to the ground and land on the buttstock. When I picked it up, I cleared it and went right on using it. It showed nothing but a minor scuff on the pad. It did knock my Aimpoint slightly off zero. But that's all. The STR is super simple to install. Just pull the locking pin up with something to pry it up to clear the end of the buffer tube then slide it on and release the pin. It will work like any other adjustable stock, then. I like the locking mechanism on the adjuster which locks the stock in place and drastically limits the wiggle you get with most stocks. I liked this ar15 stock so much I bought three more for my other carbines. All of my ARs have Magpul stocks, now.

The oversized cheek rest is super comfortable, and if your optic takes 123 batteries the storage compartments are super convenient. Well worth the money

I replaced the stock that came on my Blackheart International AR. The Magpul STR carbine stock Collapsible has a much better but plate than the meat tenderizer that it came with. The Magpul Stock STR Collapsible is wider and has better stability; this provides for better accuracy. I have been using this Stock for several months and have fired 2K rounds with it on. I also fired about 500 rounds with the stock that came on the AR 15. The results are very noticeable. The Magpul STR Stock is more comfortable, more stable, and provides for battery storage. On a coyote hunt using the stock but stock, I missed a coyote at 500 yards. On a hunt with the Magpul STR stock on I have not missed one coyote and have made a shot at 622 yards, not that I am anything special in accuracy, the rifle just is easier to use accurately.

The STR is my favorite of all the Magpul stocks. Use it on My 300blk that I hunt with. Has good cheek weld and locks up solid. No rattle. I really like this stock.

Magpul stocks are among the best out there. One common problem is the lever releasing the pin that fits in the positional holes is a little short in its play. To get the stock on, you need a pry bar to retract the pin helpfully. The storage compartments offer good cheek weld. When I found out my Bushmasters were using Commercial grade receiver extensions, I was a little disappointed, to say the least! I swapped out my Commercial grade Bushmaster extensions for MilSpec Vltor receiver extensions and am glad I did. For those of you who don't know, commercial extensions are made of softer alloy. If there is to be any catastrophic failure, it would be at the junction of the Reciever extension and the receiver where the softer alloy and flatter profile threads would give way before the harder, cut, mil-spec threads. For 99% of people, this would not be a problem. If you are going to the dirt with your hand on the heel of the but, as they taught in Basic, there's a potential failure looming.

The Magpul str stock fits tight on my rifle's tube, no wiggle once locked in. Very comfortable, the storage area makes for much better cheek weld than standard stock. Not too heavy. Installing is a bit of challenge; the plastic bullet/tool didn't lift the lock at all, had to use a screwdriver.

The Magpul STR carbine stock has the best feeling cheek welds of any AR-style collapsible stock. The friction lock takes virtually all the wiggle out of stock. Showed a buddy, and he had to have one for his AR-10 pattern deer rifle. I use the storage tubes for batteries mostly, but my buddy wanted to store a lens cloth. The plugs that close off the tubes in the Magpul str stock have smaller caps, and we were able to save a small lens cloth in the plug, leaving the tube free and clear for batteries or other accessories. Solid! Looks great with my FDE AR-10. Cheek rests comfortably in the perfect position for the scope. When locked in place, it doesn’t budge.
