Perfect SPR
This scope has all the essential features necessary for a great SPR (Special Purpose Rifle) scope. Although it is not the lightest option available, its weight is justified by its superior quality and durability. While considering other options like the new Vortex PST and Sig scopes, I chose the Burris due to its proven track record and my positive experiences with other Burris products. When paired with a Larue 20MOA scope base and 34mm rings, the result is a perfect setup.
Elk Hunting
I used this scope for elk hunting in Northern NM for two years, and it did not disappoint. I was able to achieve clean kills at distances of 430 yards and 320 yards by simply adjusting the elevation and taking the shot. The most memorable moment was when I made a 420-yard shot from a valley below a mesa, with the elk standing on the edge of the mesa against a beautiful clear blue sky in the background. The sight through the scope was truly magnificent.
Excellent Scope with Very Excellent Glass
This scope is truly exceptional. I was debating between the Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10 and this one, but after researching the Burris XTR II, I discovered that it has excellent glass and is very well-made. Typically, you would have to pay significantly more for a scope with this level of quality and features. The turrets are fantastic, the illumination is good, and it has a zero stop feature. Due to its 34mm tube, it is quite robust. I particularly like that it is a first focal plane scope, and while it is slightly heavier, this is only a minor downside. Additionally, the forever warranty with no questions asked is a great bonus. I'm using it on a 20" precision build and absolutely adore this scope. Given the price and features, it is unbeatable, and any negative aspects are outweighed by what you get.
Tough as they come
I obtained my XTR II for my match rifle a bit more than a year ago and have used it in various environments, ranging from the desert to muddy terrains. Most recently, I brought it to the SHC in Colorado, where it rained every day. I have fired more than 1000 rounds with this scope, and tracking tests performed at 500 and 1000 rounds revealed that it functioned perfectly. The glass didn't fog up or cause any issues. Despite being bumped around quite a bit, the scope held zero really well. During a night match last year, I found the variable illumination to be incredibly beneficial. The dials are labeled clearly, and the adjustments can be felt and heard, albeit quietly. I particularly appreciate how easily the magnification ring rotates, allowing me to quickly switch between 5 and 25, which aids in target acquisition. Additionally, the magnification holds once it's set. Compared to other optics I've used, the eye relief is pretty generous. The reticle is properly calibrated, as my holdover drills align perfectly with the dial. Overall, this is a high-quality piece of equipment that provides great value for the price. However, my only issue (which isn't a big one) is that the reticle can become a bit too thick at higher magnification, and I would have preferred the SCR reticle instead. I guess I'll have to purchase another one without any hesitation. (In the photo, taken at the end of the first day of the SHC, you can't see the optic, but you can see the dirt and grime from the mud, which didn't cause any problems.)
Great Experience with an Amazing Scope
Around six months ago, I acquired my first Burris scope, and since it was my initial encounter with a FFP (first focal plane) scope, I was somewhat nervous. I bought it in anticipation of obtaining a 6.5 Creedmoor RPR (Ruger Precision Rifle), but I was unable to locate one. Nonetheless, when I mounted this scope on my Remington 700 5R Tactical 308, the results were amazing. The Burris ballistics tools proved to be incredibly accurate and helped me easily hit targets at distances of up to 770 yards. I loved my first scope so much that I recently purchased another one (Burris XTR II 5 X 25 X 50) to mount on my new RPR 6.5 Creedmoor. I sighted it in last Saturday, and it took only about 9 shots to accomplish, with three of them landing in the same hole at 50 yards, which initially caused me to believe that I had missed the target. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend any of the Burris XTR II models. The clarity is excellent, and the new ballistic tools are incredibly precise. I'm definitely a devoted Burris fan!
Great FFP Scope
I've been using this scope for almost 6 months now, mounted on a 6.5 Creedmoor rifle for shooting targets ranging from 100 to 600 yards. The clarity is excellent, and the focus and parallax adjustments work very well. The windage and elevation adjustments are highly precise and easy to make by either counting clicks or viewing the knob graduations. The best part is that the adjustments are repeatable, so if you dial out for shots beyond your zero distance, returning back to your zero is accurate and precise. The Zero Stop feature also functions well. Overall, I'm highly satisfied with this scope and consider it to be a great value. Additionally, there is very little difference between this Burris XTR II and another leading brand that I own, which costs nearly twice as much.
