    Hands-On: Burris Eliminator 3 Review

The scope comes with a range of features, including the ability to range targets up to 1,200 yards away, a built-in ballistic calculator, and various reticle options. During my field testing, I found the rangefinding function to be quick and accurate, and the ballistic calculator to be easy to use and accurate. The scope's build quality and durability were also impressive, and the controls were intuitive and easy to use. While the Burris Eliminator III is a relatively expensive option, I believe it's an excellent choice for serious long-range shooters. The scope is versatile and can be used for hunting, target shooting, and long-range competitions. Overall, I think the Burris Eliminator III is a high-quality product that's well worth the investment for anyone serious about long-range shooting.

The Burris Eliminator III is a scope with an internal range finder that allows for quick and easy adjustments for long-range shooting. The article highlights the scope's ease of use, accuracy, and the convenience of not having to make turret adjustments or use handheld range finders. Also the scope's clarity of lens, reticle engagement, and its ability to compensate for shot angle. The article recommends the scope for serious shooters, but suggests that potential buyers should be aware of the scope's limitations, such as its inability to function well in low-light situations.

    Amazing Optics

I purchased this scope earlier this year with some hesitation, but decided to use it for scouting and ranging animals of all sizes before heading out on a hunting trip in the western part of the country. On my first scouting trip, I was able to range a deer in a field at 854 yards, which was a pleasant surprise. Recently, I returned from a guided hunt in Colorado and was able to drop a mule deer in its tracks with a shot from 368 yards away. The guide never saw me use the scope but was impressed by the accuracy and simplicity of its use. I now own three of these scopes for different rifles, and I no longer have to rely on turret adjustments or handheld range finders.

    600 yards in one day

Mounting the optic and zeroing it at 50 yards was a breeze. I then headed to the long range and was able to hit armor at 300, 400, 500, and finally 600 yards with Walmart's standard 308 caliber ammunition, which produced 10-12" groupings. The following weekend, I returned to the range with match-grade ammunition and was able to tighten up the group to 4 inches. If I had to offer one suggestion to Burris, it would be to make the touchpad for the computer cable smaller. The current size can be a bit cumbersome when mounted on a weapon with limited real estate.

    Burris Eliminator III scope

This scope is truly outstanding and could easily be considered one of the best on the market. I did find mounting it to be a bit of a challenge, but to be fair, I'm not exactly an expert in engineering. Once mounted correctly for the shooter, the clarity of the lens is exceptional, and the reticle is easy to engage. What sets this scope apart from others is its user-friendly design and the convenience of having both an excellent scope and an internal range finder in one. After pre-programming the scope for your gun caliber, velocity, weight of bullet, and barometric pressure, all you have to do is focus on your target, press a button on the scope's tip, and it will give you the yardage to the target and provide a red dot on the reticle to show what hold-over you should use for the shot. It does even more, but I haven't quite figured out how to use the windage factors the scope provides yet. Overall, this scope is exceptional and a must-have for any serious shooter.

Performs as advertized, but check before assuming you'll get out to 1200yd for your projectile

After purchasing the scope, I tested its functionality before firing a round and noticed that it was not showing aim points for my round beyond 850 yards, despite the fact that the round does not go subsonic until around 1050 yards. Upon further investigation, I discovered that the scope reticle is physically capable of showing an aim point at a zoom of 7x or below out to 1200 yards for this round. However, the table in the manual on page 6 listed the approximate ranges that the scope can provide an aim point for given a particular ballistic coefficient (BC) and 750-yard drop number. The cutoff I was observing was the limit stated in this table, which was disappointing since the round goes beyond 1000 yards and the scope is physically capable of displaying a lighted aim point at 7x or below out to 1200 yards. Therefore, before purchasing this scope, it is important to check your round's BC and drop number against the table in the manual to ensure that what you want to shoot is within the scope's limits as listed in this table. At long ranges, this scope does not correct for certain factors such as spin drift, but it does correct for shot angle (+/- 45 degrees), which was a pleasant surprise. The only other issue I encountered was that the included mounting system did not raise the front bell above a long rail, so additional risers may be needed if you have a flat rail that extends to the front of the scope. In summary, it is crucial to read the manual thoroughly and confirm that the scope will meet your needs before purchasing it. As a point of trivia, I estimated that the aim points are center-to-center about 0.09 MILs from each other at full magnification, with about 95 such aim points. The string of aim points ends about halfway between the bottom line and the next-to-bottom line (~8.5 MILs full magnification) in the reticle.

    My Best Scope

I attached the Eliminator III to my new Ruger Precision Bolt-Action Rifle chambered in .308 Winchester and headed to the range. Zeroing the scope was a breeze and it consistently hit its mark at 100 yards. The included ballistic table was spot on for my specific ammunition, providing the correct drop and ballistic coefficient. I was able to shoot accurately up to 500 yards, which is my personal maximum range for ethical hunting. However, the scope easily ranged targets past 1000 yards. Entering the drop number and BC was simpler than I anticipated.

    Worth every 'nickel'!

I bought this scope a year and a half ago for our annual Montana PD hunt and mounted it on a custom Ruger Mini 14 in 204 caliber with a 1/2" MOA. After inputting the necessary factors for choreographed reloads, B.C., and a 3K' altitude adjustment, sighting in was easy out to 750 yards using a two-foot square, white backside of a target board and a painted white 12" bonger on a stake. Laser readings were accurate and "dead on" via walkie talkies. The adjustable objective and sun shade allowed for accurate ranging off the PD mound or a nearby stone, resulting in a longest confirmed hit of 734 yards. The lighted LED covered the target, but it was easy to hold off to the side of the target and then move the dot back onto the target for a clean hit off an adjustable Caldwell shooting rest. While not critical when shooting off a swivel shooting bench, it would be nice to have a remote, infrared laser switch for ease of ranging when on a bipod. Overall, this scope is outstanding for long-range shooting. The all-in-one package includes accurate distance ranging (up/downhill), an adjustable objective, range at any power setting, and it's easy to remove and replace the spare battery. The only thing missing, besides the switch, would be the ability to "paint" your target before sending your missile downrange. If you're looking for a great scope, this one won't disappoint. Pros: All-in-one package, accurate distance ranging (up/downhill), adjustable objective, range at any power setting, and easy to remove and replace the spare battery. Cons: Needs remote infrared switch.

    So far so good

This scope is mounted on a Savage 110BA 338 Lapua and has been fired 68 times. It has been used for shooting up to 894 yards with great accuracy and has a good eye relief. The mount is simple and comes included with the scope, making it easy to remove and use with other rifles. While the glass quality is not on par with high-end brands like Schmidt and Bender or US Optics, it still provides a clear image (rated at 7-8 out of 10). The scope has been used in sunset conditions without any issues, although it has not been used for hunting yet. In terms of value, the range finder on this scope is very accurate and was able to range a target at 894 yards within 1 yard. Compared to other range finders that often fall short of their advertised range, this makes it a good deal. The only downside is that the remote for the EIII is not included with this model, unlike with the model 1 and 2. The scope is also quite large and comes with an option to raise it slightly. The software is easy to use and can be adjusted for different calibers by following the manual. Overall, this scope is highly recommended and will not disappoint.
