I purchased one of these Cable Gun Lock For my AR rifle, and it works perfectly. When I store my rifle, I take the bolt out, then feed the lock cable through the upper and down through the magazine well. The rubber cable coating stops scratching of the surface. The key can't be removed till the cable is securely seated. Also as a means to prevent young children and mentally challenged persons from playing with the lock, the keyhole can be covered with a built-in rotating metal cover that has a slot for the key. So it's not that simple to insert the key and twist. Any normal adult can figure it out in about 3 seconds. I bought two more for my other rifle and revolver.
