One of the best investments I ever made
I used to use the old hammer and punch trick until I had a customer ask me to install nite sites on his Springfield XD Pistol. After reading some of the horror stories from people who have tried this, I figured it was time to invest in something to make my job easier. So I bought the Wheeler Engineering sight tool. After receiving it and reading the book twice, and familiarizing myself with all the parts I set off on my first job. I had no problem removing the old sights and installing the new rear sight, but what the heck of a time I had with the front one. After taking a little breather and thinking about it, I took a brass hammer and lightly tapped on the sight pusher as I applied pressure; it worked great! Problem solved.Should have invested in one of these years ago.
Best Handgun Sight Tool
This Handgun Sight Tool is the only one that I've tried that works on stubborn dovetail sights. With most all others, the slide rolls or twists in the fixture from all the force needed which results in not being able to push the sight out or in squarely. Not good! One key part that's in the instructions....when the handle becomes real hard to turn, give the jaws a tap with a plastic hammer or even the handle. Believe it or not this helps turning it. Works great! Sure, it's pricey. But look at all the machine work that goes into it, not to mention it's made in the good old USA! Bottom line....buy it. It works great.
Well engineered, easy to use, and versatile
Great product. I'm growing fonder of Wheeler every day. I have a number of sight pushers, including the MGW sight pro. This is every bit as good for considerably less money. The reference marks can be used to ensure that the sights are perfectly centered. The MGW doesn't have that feature. I like the shoes for the MGW as it provides more stability for the frame but the Wheeler is perfectly capable of cinching down to prevent issues. I highly recommended. Can't go wrong with either.
Superior Tool
This tool was just the ticket. I was impressed by its construction even before I opened the box. It is a heavy tool, but this works to its advantage. I had to remove a very stubborn rear sight from my CZ 75B, and this tool filled the bill. A punch and brass hammer would never have removed this sight, but this tool made the task relatively easy. It is intuitive to operate. The instructions are written in the "King's English," and are therefore easily understood and followed. (Yes, I do read directions!) The large spoked wheel that operates the pusher is very adequate for the job. The tool holds the slide very securely in all directions, which puts my mind at ease. I can recommend this tool without reservation.
Pretty Good Universal Sight Pusher
I have used it on my 1911 w/ dovetail mounted front sight (Trijicons) and have done Glocks 32, 19, 43. I prefer the Maryland Gun Works Glock pusher for models 42,43, but this one works fine. Installed TruGlo TFOs exclusively. It contains special instructions for XD sights but I hear the MGW Universal pusher is best for those and considerably more expensive. Since I wouldn't own an XD, or anything that I can't get parts for, like an extractor for an XD (yeah, look at your slide, it is pressed in at the factory, and you CAN'T get it out, it has to go back to the factory) SIG, or Smith, I'll stick to my Glocks and 1911's, thanks very much.
Works but be careful
This is a jack-of-all-trades adjuster, so you need to set it upright. It has lines and indicators to line up straight and center, so make sure you use those. I covered the pushers with felt because I marred a tritium glock sight, but it was more my fault than the pusher. Other than that, I've put 5 sights on and off with this, and it's well worth the money!
Really is Universal
I'm a certified gunsmith and have not found a pistol yet. I could not push sights for with this tool: Glock, Springfield, Taurus, Kimber, RIA, and Remington, to name a few. I keep the threads greased and also take my time. I have not scratched or marred a slide yet.
