NcStar Blue Jig converted to Mil-Spec Buffer Tube Only!

Alright, so I had some free time tonight and decided to tweak this blue jig I've been working with. I wasn't a fan of its adjustable feature for commercial or mil-spec, so I modified it to be mil-spec only. Using a factory-built Colt lower, I noticed a gap of 150 thousandths of an inch. Surprisingly, a standard washer and nut from the hardware store fit perfectly. I installed it with washers acting as bearings, ensuring smooth rotation. After adjustments, the measurement was nearly perfect at 147 thousandths. With the Colt lower in place and everything tightened, the measurements are consistent, ensuring no skewing. I'm really pleased with the outcome and love my blue jig – I even have two of them!

I recently got a new tool, the Vision AR-15 Lower Receiver Vise Block, recommended by School the American Rifle. I tried it on another build, and it's designed to secure the buffer tube. One minor issue: the fabric inside, meant to protect the buffer tube, came off, so I might replace it with some foam. The tool uses the grip screw to secure the lower, making it easier to tighten the castle nut. It's more efficient than the standard mag well vise block. There are other similar tools out there, but they're not as readily available. I'm using an OD Green buffer tube from Brownells for this build and will soon assemble it with a forward control designs OD Green castle nut. This tool is great, and I highly recommend it.

don't usually write product reviews, but I had to share my experience with the Visum AR15 Lower Receiver Vise Block by NC Star. I've used Rob Shepard's tool before and didn't expect much from this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. This tool is excellent for torquing the castle nut on an AR-15 lower receiver. It has a unique design that prevents the buffer tube from rotating, a problem I've faced with other tools. I use a cloth to avoid scratches, and despite my old WWII-era vise showing some flex, this tool works perfectly. I use a specific method with the Duffy tool and a torque wrench set at 40 foot-pounds to tighten the castle nut. The result? A perfectly aligned buffer tube with no damage. I even use it as a gauge to check alignment. I was so impressed that I ordered another one.
