I bought two of these Rifle Basix triggers
I bought two of these triggers for Marlin 917V rifles. The installation was straightforward, and factory safety was 100% functional. This unit provides a trigger pull just right for me and legal for competition.......light (3 pounds), crisp and reliable. Regarding trigger failures: We shoot these rifles in High Power matches where two stages are rapid-fire. We pound these bolts hard in rapid-fire, and an accidental discharge is just NOT OK. One of our shooters actually tore the bolt handle off of his 917V! We have had ZERO unplanned discharges with these triggers. Locknuts for the two adjustment screws are not used. The suggested technique of crimping the threads on two trigger adjustment bolts to prevent their movement is just nuts. I used red Loctite and recommended red or blue. The downside? The price for this little thing? Yikes!
I installed this trigge
I installed this trigger in my new Marlin 983 in about 15 minutes. I adjusted it for the maximum weight to ensure still being able to remove the bolt, and it came in the right at two pounds. The safety still operates as intended, and this is a HUGE improvement over the factory trigger.
Great product easy to install and it has greatly inproved
Great product easy to install and it has greatly improved my groups at the range and in the field. This is the best upgrade you can make for the Marlin.
Unbelievable improvement!
Unbelievable improvement! I just installed this trigger in about 10 min tops; it was a snap. Remove one clip and one pin, and Viola, it's out and ready to go back in. Place the trigger into place and reinsert the pin and clip. Now you put the spring into the hole at the rear of the trigger and screw the screw into place. Set it for pull weight by screwing the screw in further until the desired pull is achieved. Next, you cock the rifle and screw in the backlash screw until it fires, then back it off 1/2 to 1 turn for the desired creep. Dab some of your wife's fingernail polish on the two screws, and you're done. Reassemble, making sure that you DONT LOSE THE SPRING that goes between the action and the trigger assembly. On my Marlin 917 VS, this has improved the group size by 100%, from 1 1/4" at 100 to less than 5/8" with Hornady, Rem. and win. Ammo. CCI shot very poorly through my gun and several friend's guns as well. I set my pull to the lightest (not recommended)with no creep whatsoever. I also highly recommend you get a BSA Sweet 17 scope for the 17HRM rifle you have. I am going to the 300 Yd range tomorrow to see what this gun can really do.
If you own a 917 Marlin 17HMR you need this upgrade
If you own a 917 Marlin 17HMR, you need this upgrade. Easy to install, 30 minutes, and you have a trigger pull around 2 pounds, with no creep. You'll smile every time you pull it. Follow the instructions, don't turn the sear screw-in past flush on the bottom to start, turn the pull weight screw in until the gun stays cocked when you slam the bolt closed, turn the sear screw in just enough to take any creep out, assemble and cock and slam the bolt closed a few times. If the gun stays cocked, you're probably good to go. If you like the pull weight, take barreled action from the stock, apply loc-tight or fingernail polish, let dry overnight, re-assemble, test by slamming the bolt again. If the gun passes the test, go to the range and try not to grin every time you pull the trigger. Like the instructions say, and you should already know, NEVER rely totally on mechanical safety.
I love this Marlin 917 trigger.
I love this trigger. Have it on my 917 HMR, set at 2#. I love to have friends shoot it to see their faces. Such grins! Very easy to install and adjust.
Marlin 917 trigger
In trying to improve the factory Marlin trigger, I got a trigger job from a local gunsmith. Disappointed with the results, I tried this trigger. The results were impressive! The install is extremely easy (I have no experience working on firearms), even for me. The sear adjustment screw and weight of pull adjustments allow you to quickly adjust the trigger to your liking. Everyone who has shot my rifle agrees the trigger is crisp, creep-free, and very accurate. I used loctite on the screws, as recommended by the manufacturer, and have no problems with durability. An excellent product!
