Mesa Tactical SureShell Polymer Remington 870 Side Saddle Shell Carier & Scope Mount (6-Shell, 12-GA)

The new Shotshells polymer carrier system comes with a superb dual rubber friction system which ensures that Sureshells are held securely in their proper place. This device is packaged in a six shell configuration. Apart from this, it has shell holders injection molded from glass filled polymer. These are secured to the receiver by a lightweight aluminum back plate with black threaded inserts.

The device is also equipped with Mesa Tactical Side Saddle rails machined from aircraft grade 606-T6 aluminum, and mil-spec hard anodized. This way, the device ends up a with a non-glare matte finish that has an impressive shelf life. It then becomes easy to mount variety of optical sights with the robust mounting platform offered by the design of the basic saddle rail. Apart from this basic version there is a similar version that also comes with a Mesa Tactical six shell Sureshell polymer carrier. It is mounted right there on the receiver’s left side.

The saddles are very much alike though considering that the manufacturing of both was done in total compliance with MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny specifications. You would have absolutely no need for gunsmitting while installing this device. Besides, adding Optical sights and Sureshell carriers to the Remington shotguns is very easy, with the use of mesa tactical’s pistol grip system and new LEO telescoping stock.

Sureshell models differ in Efficiency and capability. Asides this, there is also the distinguishing feature of the lightweight aluminum backing plate. The lightweight aluminum backing plate is specifically designed to mount the carrier assembly, only on a particular model of shotgun. That shotgun would be Mossberg’s side-mount Sureshell shotgun carriers.

To secure the assemblies to the weapon, Remington and benelli M1 shotguns, Benelli supernova tactical and some Mossberg Remington make use of the trigger group pin holes. On the other hand, some Mossberg 500/590 and Benelli supernova tactical versions simply make use of the factory-tapped rail mounting holes in the tops of these shotguns and add integrated picatinny optics mounting rails. Remington’s saddle mount design is another version that comes with an integrated rail.

    Optical Sureshell carriers.

    Sureshell aluminum shotshell carriers.

The Sureshell aluminum shotshell carriers are milled from 6061-T6 aircraft aluminum. They are then bead blasted, and mil-spec hard anodized. This is how they end up with the rugged matted finish they are famous for. The perfect finish is protected by die-cut rubber gaskets, backed with high temperature adhesive. There are four shell, six shell and eight shell configurations for Sureshell shotshell shotgun carriers. You can install the six shell and eight shell configurations whichever side of the receiver you prefer, just as you can also install Carriers pointed back, facing the stock.

    Adapter mount Sureshell aluminum carrier

This device is specially designed for use with shotguns that feature mesa tactical high tube or low tube telescoping stock adapter. Without which the carrier cannot be used. But if you are considering the other mesa tactical Sureshell carriers described in this guide, you can attach them to shotgun receivers, even while the stock adapter is uninstalled.

Shell carriers with integrated picatinny rails

The side mount designs is totally different from the integrated rail Sureshell shotshell carrier design for the Benelli supernova, Benelli M4/M1014,benelli M2 Tactical, and Mossberg 500/590 platforms. in place of the side mount’s stamped backing plate, the shell carrier yoke is attached to a machined bracket that features an integral picatinny(MIL-ST 1913 or NATO STANAG 2324) sight rail.

This way, the shotshell assembly gets to be installed on the top of the shotgun, using rail holes of the factory tapped picatinny (MIL-ST 1913 or NATO STANAG 2324).
The shell carrier assembly is mounted directly onto the shotgun receiver of the Benelli shotguns, but with the Mossberg platforms, you need to first install a steel mounting cleat, with a shell carrier fastened to it.

    Stock mount shell carriers

As long as these shell carriers are not getting mounted to either the Urbino tactical stock benelli M4, you are good. They just do not fit. They only mount to the Urbino pistol grip stock cheek riser, the sides of standard M4 SOPMOD buttstocks or Benelli pistol grip fixed stock.

    Forend compatibility

In order to use factory shotgun forends with some Sureshell shotshell carriers, you may need to get some aftermarket “tactical” forends. This is because; they often come with receiver overlap when the bolt is pulled. Tactical forends are an exception to this rule. The best approach therefore is to cut down or replace the forends with aftermarket “tactical” forends.

When you are about to install a Sureshell shotshell carrier, measure the receiver overlap of your forends. Then compare the measurement to the shotshell carrier’s furthest forward pont, any potential overlap off the end of the forend should be cut off, using either a rotary arm or a miter saw

    Remington 870/1100/11-87

Remington 870/1100/11-87’s saddle rail comes with aluminum brackets, which wrap around the shotgun receiver’s top, with a picatinny optics rail at the top. Instead of the factory trigger pins, an internally threaded steel pin is used in the rear. This is paired with Chicago screws in front. It is this pair that both sides of the saddle rail are securely attached to. Sureshell saddle rails has along the top, a Picatinny sight rail MIL-STD 1913(NATO STANAG 4694)

Besides, there is a six-shot Sureshell polymer shotshell carrier yoke on the receiver’s left side and the rear-notched rail accommodates scattergun/Wilson style ghost ring sights. The 5 inch rail extends to the front of the gunshot receiver; eight and a half inches rail extends two- three quarters inches past the front of the receiver, while the twenty inch rail extends just beyond the barrel’s magazine lug.

To anchor the 20 inch rails at the front, a clamp is required, but Operators who already own clamps would not be needing one. This is one shell carrier mounting method that is as efficient as it looks.

    very good

This dual function enhancement to my Remington 11-87 was impeccable. It appears to be made from good materials. How the Mesa Tactical Saddle Rail attached was excellent. The fit, form, and function was everything that was promised. The one shortcoming will be when it is time to clean the trigger assembly. The directions suggested, and I used Loctite on the screws, and it might take a little work to get this back off of the gun.

    rock-solid on my Remington 870

When I first installed the Mesa Tactical SureShell Polymer Carrier, the entire thing had a tiny but perceptible wobble to it. Took the screws out and filed them down just a tad and that fixed the wobble issue. Now it sits rock-solid on my Remington 870, holding additional shells as expected. The rail on the top works excellent for mounting whatever you want. If you do get one that has some wiggle in it remember to file down the screws just a tad and the world will be right again.
