The principle difference between one model of SureShell and another, aside from capacity, is the backing plate, which is designed to mount the carrier assembly on a particular model of shotgun. Side-mount SureShell shotshell carriers for Mossberg , Remington and Benelli M1 shotguns use the trigger group pin holes to secure the assemblies to the weapon; the Benelli M2 Tactical, Benelli M4/M1014, Benelli SuperNova Tactical and some Mossberg 500/590 versions take advantage of the factory-tapped rail mounting holes in the tops of these shotguns and include integrated Pictanny optics mounting rails; another version with an integrated rail is the saddle-mount design for Remington; SureShell Carriers for M4 SOPMOD stocks feature special hardware for attachment to these buttstocks; Adapter Mount SureShell shotshell carriers are designed to be attached to Mesa Tactical Telescoping Stock Adapter accessory mount points.

Rem 870 20 gauge side saddle

Easy enough to install and works great. This is the second one that I have, the first for 12 GA Rem 870. Reminder: One has to remove the trigger assembly and then the spring clip that retains one trigger pin. That pin will be replaced by new ones provided with Side Saddle. Another good thing about this new assembly is that the pins that retain it are captured, as apposed to floating, as is the case on a factory 870. Having screws holding in the pins from the outside, on both ends, is an added layer of reliability. No floating pins. And it works. One should heed the intstructions which say not to store shotgun shells on a long-term basis in the Side Saddle, for doing so would compress the elastomeric material that holds the shells in place. So one must add shells to the side saddle as they are needed, not on a continuous basis. But the Side Saddle is a quality piece of gear; sturdy and reliable, that will last a lifetime. I like the side saddle - it's an absolute solid fit and looks good. Though I had to polish/sand the genuine standoff pin to fit, as bur on the channel prevented insert. Also, the 4-shell saddle extended about 1/4" longer than my 870 Express wood fore-end; but I used a dremmel to notch my fore-end.

I bought this to provide backup ammo on a home defense shotgun but didn't want too much-added weight (4-rd instead of 6-rd); trying to keep this one more manageable by others (i.e., lighter) than my HD 12 GA. It functions perfectly, and there is no better quality ammo carrier on the market, IMHO.

This is a great side saddle. Very high quality product for the price. I found the directions a bit confusing but was able to piece it together with the help of a couple of youtube videos. If I can figure it out I'm sure anybody can. Overall very pleased with this purchase.
