The Shield's design leaves my pinky finger without a proper grip and without a magazine, which can be distracting during dry fire practice. However, the Samson mag resolves this issue and allows for a comfortable hold. I use it with an 8-round magazine in the stock configuration and a +1 extension as my spare. This setup increases the rounds from 8 to 9. The product functions as advertised, but I have noticed that the magazine no longer falls free from the gun and requires manual stripping. Removing a few thousandths from the ID during production or omitting the nitride finish on the inside could fix this. Additionally, the anchoring system works well, but I think it could grab the inside of the grip cavity better.

This product is well-designed, and it makes it easy to shoot and reload like a full-size gun. I rarely carried the gun except with the 8-round magazine, so it works well for me. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that I had to do a lot of fitting to make it work with my Shield 2.0, which is likely more of an issue with S&W than with this product. Despite having to do some fitting, it is still worth it for the improvement in shooting and reloading.

I had questions about this samson shield magwell and the magazine extensions for the shield, and Samson quickly provided helpful responses. This magwell is a must-have for the shield, as it addresses a design flaw where the magazines are designed with a slip-on piece of polymer that requires the shooter to adjust their grip when dropping the magazine. I installed it easily by following the instructions that came with it, and then tested it by firing three magazines. I could keep my grip while dropping the magazine, which saved me time and kept me on target. In a critical situation, this magwell could make the difference of a split second that could save your life. Additionally, it looks great with a nice finish and flared-out design that provides a spot for your fingers to rest. It also helps guide the magazine into the shield. For the price, it gives a lot of value to a shooter.

The m&p shield magwell is excellent, but for proper functionality and sturdiness, I had to make adjustments. Initially, it did not fit perfectly, as it sat too shallow against the frame and had significant wobbling. However, I sanded and filed the bottom of the gun frame for a perfect fit with no gaps or unevenness. I also drilled the front screw hole deeper for a more secure fit, and then permanently installed it with JB weld. It is a solid and seamless fit, and I am happy with the results. Additionally, I got the mag well to sit deeper against the frame for more accessible seating of all mag extensions with no seam or gap. This is the proper and reliable way to install it.

I have big hands and would occasionally pinch my hand when reloading. This m&p shield magwell was the only option on the market that added to the firearm and not the magazine. Fits perfectly and makes Mag changes easier.
