Rock solid mount, crystal clear optics.
I purchased the Leupold model 180093, attracted by the brand and how it seemed to meet my needs. However, after a more thorough inspection, I noted a few shortcomings. The reflective coating on the objective lens isn't ideal for tactical use and really should have come with a Tenabraex Killflash to mitigate this. Despite its 34mm objective bell suggesting a larger field of view, it's actually quite standard, which wasn't a major issue for me as I primarily use the Bindon Eye Concept. A bigger surprise was learning that this model is marketed primarily as a "hunting sight," which explains the lack of certain tactical features. This could have been an exceptional combat, tactical, or competition sight with the right enhancements. Additionally, the AR mount would benefit greatly from a quick-detach throw lever. The reticle lighting system is cumbersome to adjust, and a "shake awake" feature would have been a valuable addition. The optics are on par with high-end brands like IOR Valdada and Schmidt and Bender, which is expected from Leupold. Overall, this sight could surpass Leupold's CQ/T for combat and tactical use if it had better tactical features. These oversights led me to give it four stars. If fully equipped for tactical use, I'd expect it might cost around $1k more, but it would be worth it.
Best red dot I own
This Leupold scope embodies the quality and sturdiness I've come to expect from the brand. I particularly appreciate the small one MOA dot, which is less obtrusive on the target compared to other red dots I've used. The optional BDC feature is a standout, allowing for quick adjustments to longer distances without manual compensation—just turn the elevation knob, align the crosshair, and shoot. The only slight drawback is the limited mounting space for the rings, which offers little flexibility in positioning the scope along the mount. I initially used a Vortex mount but switched to a Leupold mount for a more secure fit. I definitely recommend this scope, and my brother is even planning to get one after trying out mine.
