Elcan Specter 4x Optical Sight
While the Elcan Specter DR models are notable for theirs, throw the lever, prism system, and cam that allow the shooter switch quickly between 1x and 6x, the Specter OS has 4x fixed magnification (for simplicity). Essentially, the Specter OS4x is the same optic, but fixed at 4x without the prism and throw lever mechanism. In that way, the manufacturer kept the combat-tough optic with outstanding glass, but significantly lighter and less expensive than its big brothers. Also, it is Elcan intention to offer a successor for the much older C-79 optic, a telescopic sight of 3.4x28 magnification.
The Elcan SpecterOS4x is an extremely rugged tool because its glass and forged aluminum housing are one fixed piece that is locked into the mechanical center. Including the nearly full-length integral ARMS base this middleweight compact scope has 17.4 oz. of weight all together with the mount. The mount itself has two levers which fasten the sight to the ‘Picatinny’ rail and allow the sight to be securely reattached without the need to re-zero. As the optical day sight (LDS), the SpecterOS 4x has the front objective of 32mm which provides excellent vision in low light levels, and with a 6-degree field of view, or 34.2 feet at 100 yards, it presents one of the best choices in this category. This fixed magnification combat scope with a large exit pupil and Elcan standard 70mm eye relief utilizes the superb optics and mechanics of the commercially available Dual Role line sights. As earlier mentioned, the optics are placed in a sealed, hardened housing with the reticle etched in glass featuring 5 Red LED illumination settings, with two that are Night Vision compatible. The SpecterOS CR2032 3V battery life is ranging, depending on the setting used between 600 and 3,000 hours. Due to the superior optical quality of the glass, the SpecterOS4x outperforms competing for 4x optical sights as it has brighter, clearer, and richer in color image. The ballistically compensated reticle consists of a chevron or cross hair with horizontal stadia lines for range which many shooters are finding very helpful.
Before purchasing ELCAN SpecterOS4x Optical Sight a potential customer who is looking for a tactical precision rifle scopes should know that this is not really that kind of optic anyway, nor it`s similar to the SpecterDR models. The SpecterOS4x is battlefield optics for precision aiming of service rifles and carbines designed to withstand the rigors of modern professional use.
