Customer Ratings & Reviews
great stock transition
I purchased this stock to use it for hunting purposes. Despite some initial concerns after reading reviews, I was impressed with the look and feel of the stock when it arrived. I decided to use it on one of my Mosin Nagant M44 rifles, which was pieced together from various parts, rather than my all matching serial numbers one. The installation process did require some sanding and fitting, but I took it as an opportunity to add my own personal touch and history to the rifle. It was worth the time and effort spent, and I'm excited to use it for hunting and pass it down to future generations as a cherished family heirloom. Overall, great product and customer service.
Mosin-Nagant M38 with ATI Stock
I recently purchased the ATI Fiberforce Stock for my Mosin-Nagant M38 Carbine, and I couldn't be happier with the results. The new stock completely transforms the look of the old surplus rifle, giving it a modern and updated appearance. The instructions clearly state that the stock may need some modifications to fit the M38 correctly, and I found that using a Dremel tool made the process quick and easy. I also used the Dremel to free-float the barrel back to the receiver, which should improve accuracy. To ensure an excellent free float, I made sure to leave a significant amount of space between the stock and barrel, and I made sure that the stock did not make contact with the barrel when tapped. The overall appearance of the carbine with the new stock is sleek and stylish, and I've received numerous compliments on it. I've also noticed an improvement in accuracy. I highly recommend the ATI Fiberforce Stock, and I suggest looking for it on Amazon Warehouse Deals as well. Some people return them because they don't fit easily, but with a little work, you can save money and still get a great product.
Great stock, don't be afraid of the grinding!
The ATI Fiberforce stock is an excellent addition for those looking to upgrade their Mosin Nagant rifle. It may require some sanding or dremelling work to fit correctly, but the end result is worth it. The receiver will fit snugly, and if you free float the barrel and use the included washer, you'll notice improved accuracy in your groups. It's essential to pay attention to where the interference is and remove the material as needed, using tools like sandpaper wrapped around a deep well socket. Some users have found that they need to relieve some material on the inside of the stock, particularly around the interrupter/ejector. With a little bit of fitting work, this stock can significantly improve the function and performance of your Mosin Nagant rifle.
44 M91/30 Sporterized
I had no trouble dropping my action into the stock. It fit very tight initially, so I relieved some material around the magazine well. I used the included washer to help bring the rear of the action up so that the barrel would fit into the front groove nicely. As for the finish, I had to sand a little down at the seams where the two halves of the stock were joined, but this was not a major issue for me. The white residue left from sanding can be easily swept away with a cloth or your hand. There were some white scuff marks left behind, so I used some Remington gun oil on a cleaning patch to remove them, and the stock looks brand new and smooth. (I tried water, but it did not work as well). Overall, this stock is a great addition. It makes it much easier to clean and work on, as I no longer have to keep removing those rings every time I want to take action out to run some water through it after shooting some corrosive ammo (the rings were very stiff on mine). I am still keeping the original stock and hardware for when I get tired of the ATI look. I plan on stripping and staining the original stock since it was in poor condition when I bought the rifle. Since this will be my cheap bush/truck rifle, I believe the ATI stock will handle abuse better than the old furniture, and there's no reason to damage the wood. That's just my opinion though.
I'm Satisfied with it.
I've been a Mosin Nagant owner for over twenty years and now use mine for hunting in Alaska. I purchased the ATI stock to replace the wood stock, mainly because I wanted to preserve the wood stock for when I retire this rifle. I've heard all the negative comments about the MN not being a good hunting rifle and the ATI stock being subpar, but it is not the equipment but the operator. MNs can be good hunting rifles, and the ATI stock works well. Installation was simple; I removed the lower and upper assemblies, put the lower in the ATI, added the included washer as instructed, dropped in the upper, tightened the screws, and was ready to shoot. The band rings on the MN are a bit of a hassle. However, the rear ring can squeeze over the front sight, and the front band can be stretched out just enough to remove it. It may be a little out of shape but not so much that it loses its shape and ability to retain the stock as the original. If it bends too much, use a rubber or leather mallet and a small ring iron to get it back into shape with a bit of elbow grease. I would like to remind you that a MN can be used for hunting, even the worn ones; just hit the range, learn your rifle's quirks and make your adjustments for it. Also, it's not cost-effective unless you're into reloading your own ammo. A box of 20 "Bear" brand rounds will cost
Nice product with very clear instructions. Very easy to install on my 91/30
I did not need to modify my Mosin Nagant 91/30 to fit the ATI stock. When I initially placed the barrel on the stock, it appeared as though it would need to be pounded with a rubber mallet to seat properly, as some other reviews suggested. However, I decided to follow the instructions before reaching for the tools. It might appear initially that the barrel is too large for the stock and needs to be shaved down, but that is not the case. It is a very tight fit for the barrel, but you can draw it into the stock by tightening the screws. The instructions indicate that the barrel should not be flush on the end, and that it is normal and will not affect the gun's operation. The instructions also include a washer for certain models that need an additional shim. Removing the rings that hold the upper wood stock in place was the hardest part. I had to pull them apart with pliers. They got fairly mangled and will probably not be reusable. If you knocked the front sight off, this would solve the issue. Overall, I would recommend the ATI stock for anyone looking to customize their Mosin Nagant rifle.
Lots of dremmeling to fit
I have been considering purchasing the ATI stock to modify my Mosin Nagant for several years. Based on a good price point and the convenience of ordering, shipping, and receiving through MSP, I decided. I have read comments on different websites that the stock may require sanding or Dremeling to achieve the right fit, depending on the model of Mosin Nagant. My rifle is an M44 produced in 1945 with matching serial numbers for the stock, bolt, and receiver. It was manufactured in Izhevsk, Russia, and was also refurbished there. Unfortunately, the stock was not a drop-in fit for my M44 and required extensive Dremeling on the length of the stock from the receiver to the end of the stock around the barrel. It took me about 3 hours to achieve the right fit by removing material and checking for fit to make the inside wider as evenly as possible. The positive side is that I did not have to remove any material around the trigger slot or the slot where the magazine goes. However, I encountered another major problem after achieving the right fit; the bolt would not slide back and seemed to be hanging up internally. I assume there was some alignment problem, but it was resolved by installing the washer/shim with the stock at the rear screw hole by the bolt on top for better aiming. The look and feel of the synthetic stock turned out better than I expected and shaved off some weight, but not as much as I expected. The overall weight is due to the rifle being built very sturdy. Despite the additional work required to achieve the right fit, I recommend purchasing this stock as it is a good investment.
Tames the beast and inspires shooting confidence.
I am not an expert marksman and have limited experience with larger caliber bolt-action rifles, but I can tell you that the ATI stock for the Mosin Nagant makes firing the rifle a more pleasant experience. The ergonomic design improves control and reduces the shoulder pain often associated with the 7.62 X 54r round. The stock eliminates the sting and bruising caused by the metal butt plate of the original stock. I could shoot for longer periods and enjoyed the rifle more after the stock change. The installation process was easy, and the stock fit perfectly on my 1935 Izzy hex receiver without any filing or sanding required. I believe this stock is not a size fit solution as many Mosins were produced under wartime conditions and may have variances in the finished molding/casting of the rifle parts. I would recommend this stock to anyone looking to customize their Mosin Nagant rifle.
I am pleased with the
I am satisfied with the stock I purchased from ATI, it required minimal adjustments during installation. I would recommend this stock to anyone looking to customize their Mosin Nagant rifle. The installation process is straightforward, no professional gunsmith skills required.
Mosin Nagant is so much lighter now
The Mosin Nagant is so much lighter with this stock. It no longer feels like holding an ibeam anymore. I am very excited to go shooting with it.
good buy
bolted on easily needed to sand and dremel the inside some where the bullets would be able to chamber. other than that great buy
awesome stock
Alot better than the wood stock. Fast and easy to change. Only a couple minutes to put it on. Worth every dime.
