These aluminum scope mounts surprised me with their functionality and durability. Machined from t-7075 aluminum, the ones I have mounted on hunting friends' rifles have never shot loose, peeded, or swagged. I use all steel mounts on my guns but can see no problems using these in the future. These and the Talley aluminum always seem to work well. Other aluminum mounts are problematic. Leupold Rifleman mounts represent excellent value.

Maybe I don't know enough to know better but these bases give me solid, immobile support for the scope on my 6.5x55 Swede model 70. I degrease prior to mounting and use low strength Loktite (purple) and properly torque the screws and have had absolutely no problems with these bases. I just don't see the need for more expensive steel bases in standard caliber rifles. Maybe they make a difference in the heavy magnum calibers, but these work fine for me.

These Rifleman scope rings, in my opinion, are of great value and quality for about $25.00 or so. Nine out of my 11 long guns have either lows or med. On them with no issues. I would rather spend the extra money on another item. I hate dishing out a lot of $$$ on a product overkill if it is not needed. People say you get what you pay for, and in other cases, you get more than what you paid for.

I installed this ring set on my Marlin 336, 30-30, and mounted a Weaver 3-9x40 scope. The scope is solid and has not loosened or moved in the rings. The reason for the solid mount is that I aligned and lapped the rings before installing the scope using a Wheeler lapping kit. Using the 1" dia. hardened steel bar and lapping compound, I proceeded until about 90% of the finish on the inside of the rings was gone. This indicated that the large majority of the inside ring surfaces were aligned and concentric circles. The scope was mounted by carefully tightening the ring screws in small increments on either side of the scope.

Excellent fit and hole location match up to the 10-22 I mounted it on. The Torx head mounting screws are clean-looking and work great. They even supplied a torx wrench. There are only two cross slots in the base I received. On longer eye relief scopes (3.5" plus like the Leopold Rifleman series), this may cause a problem getting the scope far enough forward to be comfortable. I have needed to add another slot in front of the rear slot on occasion to allow the proper rear ring position. The finish and quality are much better than other extruded bases of this style. I would call the finish satin instead of matte as it has a slight gloss to it. The finish matches the 10-22 receiver finish perfectly.

Works good for small-caliber barrels, would go with steel base for larger. Small gap between the barrel and front of the base. Good buy for the money.
