FAQ
Q: Why is the Perma Blue, not taking to the metal?
A: The chemical will not blue any metal that is not complete steel. If you need to confirm if your metal is 100% steel, place a magnet on it and see if it sticks. If it does not stick, then the metal is not !00% steel. One other reason might be that the metal is dirty.
Q. What quantity of Perma blue coats should I apply for it to get darker?
A: The metal will not get any darker after 3 - 4 coats.
Q: What can I use to apply the chemical?
A: You can use synthetic brush or cotton swabs to apply the chemical.

This perma blue is great!
I love this perma blue. Works better than the presto pen I'd used prior. Instead of water, I used denatured alcohol to clean the product off the gun, other than that followed instructions to the letter. Works very well. Typically requires several consecutive applications to get the desired strength/color. I personally wouldn't use this on large areas but for touch up and small parts I can't think of a better product. Consistency is much closer to a gel than a paste FYI, which works just fine for me.
I originally bought the Birchwood Casey Perma blue to retouch
I originally bought the Birchwood Casey Perma blue to retouch the wear on my Beretta 92- Mostly holster rub. Did an excellent sanding of the barrel and applied several liberal coats for several minutes per coat- More than necessary, I'm reasonably sure. They certainly give you enough to work with. Very happy with the results. So happy, I re-blued the entire barrel of an old .22 Rifle given to me as an heirloom- Took the 30 years of neglect right off. Not all peaches and cream though. Only works on Steel, as the acid does something kind of like rusting to the iron. This means the aluminum frame on my Beretta went without (Well, I DID try it despite knowing it wouldn't take.) Also, the slide of the 92 has some kinda special coating, it won't take there either (Glocks also have some funky coating FYI) I found myself touching it up again after about a year (fairly frequent use.) It's because of these limitations that I don't give this product 5 stars-, but in terms of how satisfied I am with ease of use and quality of finished product- I strongly recommend you buy a tube. Buy two, you'll start looking for things around the house to blue for no good reason at all.
Perfect touchup product
Great product for a minor touchup on worn blue areas on most of your guns. I will use a Q-tip for small spaces and a cotton ball for larger areas. Make sure that you spread evenly and test an area first before moving into larger, more visible areas. It improves the look that you want—highly recommended. NOTE: A small amount goes a long way, so use sparingly until you get the feel of using the product.
This Perma blue paste is an excellent product
This Perma blue paste is an excellent product for touch-ups or complete gun blue! Fast reaction and a deep tone! You can't go wrong with this stuff!!
This Birchwood Casey Perma Blue Paste works just as advertised.
This Birchwood Casey Perma Blue Paste works just as advertised. I was delighted and would purchase it again. I am a novice at this, and it still worked correctly.
Birchwood Casey Perma Blue for a an exceptional finish
Bead blast parts, clean off, and put some of this on using a small acid brush. Put on three coats of Perma blue paste and got an exceptional finish. It also makes a great base if you want to continue and paint the gun using Duracoat.
This product works
I tool my shotgun barrel outside on my picnic table then heated it up and applied the cold blue. It worked quickly and efficiently. I polish it with extra fine steel wool. It came out so good I did the whole gun - it works that well.
